Middle School Notes

Exam/Project Schedule: On Tuesday, Jan. 29, the Middle and Upper schools will dismiss at 1:15 p.m. On Jan. 30-Feb. 1, periods A, C and E, respectively, meet for two hours beginning at 8 a.m.; and B, D and F, respectively, starting at 11 a.m. During free periods (or orchestra or chorus) students need not report to school. All English, history, math, science and language classes will meet for exams, project presentations or other activities related to their courses during their letter periods. Students are free to leave after they are finished for the day, either at 10 a.m. or at 1 p.m., depending on the free period. If students have a free period first thing in the morning, they need not arrive until just before the beginning of the second exam block, at 11 a.m. If this schedule remains confusing, as the time approaches your children will become experts on the topic. If not, feel free to contact Elizabeth Ramos!

Admissions Open Homes in P.V., Long Beach, the Beach Cities, Torrance and Ladera Heights: Please see Admissions Open Home information (in the Admissions section of this issue). In the past these receptions have been very well received and well attended, so if you have friends who might be interested in Chadwick, please make them aware of this opportunity to find out more about the school.

Semester Break: Following the last exam block, students will enjoy semester break until classes resume at 7:55 a.m. on Feb. 6. During the break faculty will be grading exams and projects and participating in meetings.

Semester Grades and Comments: On Feb. 5, the faculty will participate in roll-call meetings during most of the day. At the meetings, we review the progress of each student and share information from each course about each student with the advisers. During the ensuing days and weekend, the advisers compile the information and combine it with additional data to write a comprehensive comment summarizing the semester for each advisee. After administrative review, comments and grades go live in MyBackpack on approximately Feb. 20.

Middle School Dance and Parent Evening, Friday, Feb. 8: Save the date, Friday, Feb. 8! Middle School dance! Eighth-grade parent evening with Mark Wiedenmann! Seventh-grade parent evening with Ted Hill and John Fiske! Parent social afterward (with spying opportunities on the dance)! More detail will be included in the next issue of The Navigator.
